Larry Guy
Contemporary Abstract Artist
Larry Guy enjoyed a 45-year career as a clarinetist in New York City, where he played with most of the city's orchestras, ballets, operas, and modern dance companies, as well as numerous Broadway shows. He taught clarinet and chamber music at Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Vassar College, and NYU. He authored eight textbooks for clarinetists that are still in wide use throughout the country and have been translated into Italian and Spanish. His four educational CDs, exploring great clarinet virtuosos of the past, are considered “must-hearing” for all aspiring players.
Since retiring from his music career and moving to Albuquerque six years ago, he has devoted his time to drawing and painting, and has discovered a passion for abstract art. He has been influenced in his artistic endeavors by the work of Richard Diebenkorn, Mark Tobey, Franz Kline, and Ben Nicholson.
